[Image: Part of a series of postcards created by artist Ernest Ibbetson, entitled "The Simple Life." This card refers to suffrage caravans that took place beginning around 1908, when suffragists would travel across the countryside to lobby for the right to vote. This cartoon illustration shows a suffragette waving a copy of "Votes for Women" at her horse as the horse attempts to break free of the wagon stuck in the water on the side of the road. The book is in Women's Social and Political Union colors of purple, white, and green.

On the verso, the card is address to Miss G. Litterton The Lodge Fingest House Fingest Henley-On-Thames, and postmarked April 12, 1913. The handwritten message reads: "Dear G. / Another p.c. for your album, I hope you are all quite well, as this p.c. leaves me, with love from Annie 14 Bidston Ave. Wallasey"]</text>

Lawrence Housman designed the 'From Prison to Citizenship' banner in 1908 for the Kensington branch of the Women's Social and Political Union (W.S.P.U.). The Prisoners' Pageant marched immediately behind the suffragette leaders and in front of the historical pageant of women. This spectacular procession, organised by the W.S.P.U, took place one week before the coronation of the new king, George V. The organisers hoped this display of patriotism would encourage the new king to support the proposed Conciliation Bill. This bill would have given the vote to women who were responsible for the premises they occupied, but it failed to get through parliament and the king made it quite clear he had no sympathy for the suffragette demands.]</text>

Before them is the newly unfurled 'Hunger Strikers' banner embroidered with the signatures of eighty women who had 'faced death without flinching'.

This banner was designed by Ann Macbeth, Head of Glasgow School of Art Embroidery Department as a friendship quilt. Ann donated the quilt to the WSPU Scottish Exhibition and Bazaar held at St Andrew Hall, Charing Cross, Glasgow in April 1910 to raise funds for the campaign. The quilt was purchased for £10 by Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence and subsequently converted to a banner through the addition of carrying poles.]</text>
